We’re lucky to have Mrs. Melissa Shafter on the West Point team! She teaches Study Skills and is passionate about helping students grow into their best selves. Melissa loves seeing positive changes in her students—whether it’s a boost in confidence, improved habits, or a more optimistic outlook on life.
She became a Student Success Advocate because she wanted to inspire kids to be more positive, to believe in themselves, and to reach their full potential. Her favorite part of being a Warrior is the wonderful students she works with each day and the supportive staff she collaborates with.
And here’s a fun fact: when she’s not in the classroom, Melissa loves the thrill of zip lining—proving she’s just as adventurous as she is encouraging!

Rachel loves teaching because kids are hilarious and fun, and every day brings something new. This is her first year at West Point, and she’s excited to work with junior high students again—it’s been a while, and she’s ready to jump back in.
Her inspiration to teach came from her own experiences in school, where a few great teachers helped her through tough times. Now, she’s committed to paying it forward and being that kind of positive influence for her students.
With a passion for problem-solving and creativity, Mrs. Urban is ready to help students build, innovate, and explore—both in robotics and in life. We’re lucky to have her on the Warrior team!
