Twenty kids from our school went to the Davis District Building to compete with South
Davis Junior High, and Shoreline Junior High in a contest called National History days.
Those who moved on would be able to compete in a regional competition and eventually
maybe even to go to DC.
National history days is a contest where competitors make a historical argument and make
a presentation based off that argument. All the students that were doing skits performed in
front of all the other competitors. After the performance happened, everyone else sets up
their projects in their area. Some wrote papers and others made trifold displays or
documentaries, and even websites. After setup, the students went and interviewed their
fellow students about their projects as part of the competition. While everyone ate lunch,
the judges started to look and the projects and scored them. When all the students got
back, they announced those who would be moving forward. Only ten students from each
school were able to advance to the regional level.
So, cheer on our kids at the next National History Days contest.
