Warrior Hero Highlight kristy Larsen SPED ELA teacher and cheer advisor. Returning for the 2025-26 school year. We’re excited to have Mrs. Kristy Larsen returning to West Point! She teaches Special Ed Language Arts and brings heart, energy, and positivity to her classroom every day. Kristy became a teacher because she was inspired by the amazing educators in her life and wanted a career focused on helping young people succeed. She loves working with kids because they’re resilient, forgiving, and way more fun than adults! Her favorite part of being a Warrior is cheering on our teams and seeing the whole student body come together in support. And here’s a fun fact: Kristy has been a Star Wars fan since she was 7—a Jedi at heart in the classroom and beyond!

Kelsey Browning one of our FACS teachers is excited for no advisory and to have longer classes this year. This way she is sure to see each student in her class and can help them with the extra time rather than trying to request kids and it not working out. She thinks we will get more out of class time this way.

With a teacher mom and counselor dad, helping students is in her DNA. Katrina loves watching students discover their “why” and grow into their potential.

Warrior Hero Highlight returning for the 2025-25 school year. Katrina Beddes Counselor and Hope squad advisor. We’re so happy to have Ms. Katrina Beddes returning to West Point as part of our Counseling Department & one of our Hope Squad Advisors! With education and counseling in her blood—her mom a teacher and dad a counselor—she was inspired early on to support students on their academic and personal journeys. Katrina loves helping students discover why education matters to them and watching that realization spark real growth and change. She’s passionate about guiding students as they develop motivation, build better habits, and chase their goals. Her favorite part of being a Warrior? The supportive and loving school community that truly feels like family. We’re lucky to have her heart, insight, and dedication on our team!

¡Bienvenida de nuevo, Mrs. Marquez Lavine! She’s back at West Point teaching Spanish 1, Spanish 3, heritage Spanish, and ELD—plus she’s our new Latinos in Action advisor! 🇺🇾🇦🇷

We’re excited to have Mrs. Paula Marquez Lavine returning to West Point! This year, she’ll be teaching Spanish 1, Spanish 3, an advanced Spanish class for heritage speakers, ELD, and taking on a new role as the Latinos In Action advisor for the first time. Originally from Uruguay and raised in Argentina, she has always wanted to be a teacher. Her passion truly ignited when she tutored at-risk students and saw the joy on their faces when learning clicked. Today, she brings that same enthusiasm into her classroom as she helps students discover the value of being bilingual and exploring diverse cultures. One of her favorite things about being a Warrior is how appreciated and supported she feels by her colleagues and students. And here’s something fun: Although she didn’t grow up celebrating Day of the Dead, she studied it extensively and now uses it as her classroom theme, drawn to its deep meaning and beautiful traditions. West Point Junior High is making an exciting and thoughtful change to better support student success by removing the Advisory period from the daily schedule. After reviewing data, listening to teacher feedback, and evaluating how students were using their time, the decision was made to transition to a more effective and impactful schedule. This update is not just a structural change—it’s a strategic shift designed to increase support, improve learning, and reduce confusion. One of the biggest benefits of this change is the opportunity for more in-class interventions. Instead of relying on Advisory pull-outs, students will now receive help directly from their teachers during regular class time—right where the learning is already happening. Research shows that these classroom-based supports are 40% more effective than separate intervention periods. Longer class times also allow for consistent and focused instruction, ensuring that students who need extra help get it without missing anything else. This new structure also resolves many of the issues Advisory presented. In the past, students often didn’t show up where they were supposed to be, making it difficult for them to receive the help they needed. The time was frequently underutilized, with inconsistent grade checks and a lack of productivity. In some cases, students even skipped the period altogether, leading to unnecessary truancy and hallway disruptions. To replace Advisory, West Point is implementing two powerful supports: Warrior Time and built-in classroom interventions. Warrior Time gives students access to teachers before school each day, and again mid-morning on Wednesdays. Additionally, the extended class periods allow teachers to provide interventions within their own classrooms, which is more efficient and less disruptive to student learning. Families can feel confident and reassured about this change. Students will have more meaningful time with their teachers, receive more targeted support, experience less confusion, and ultimately benefit from a smarter use of instructional time. Teachers are enthusiastic about this new direction, knowing it leads to stronger connections and improved outcomes for every Warrior. This is more than a bell schedule adjustment—it’s a commitment to helping students thrive.

West Point Junior High is excited to introduce a new single lunch schedule for the 2025–26 school year—a change that is designed to enhance student life, safety, and school culture. Moving to one lunch period will significantly boost school-wide connection by creating more opportunities for shared events and activities, helping students feel a stronger sense of community. With all students on the same schedule, peer connections will be easier to form and maintain, allowing students to eat with their friends regardless of grade or class. From a safety perspective, staff will now be able to focus their supervision during one unified lunch period, resulting in a more controlled and supportive environment. Scheduling will also be simplified, and the change will eliminate the issue of students skipping class to attend multiple lunch periods. Clubs and student activities will benefit too, as they can now meet during lunch without interfering with after-school commitments. In addition, lunch will happen earlier in the day for all students, helping to prevent fatigue and late-day hunger. The gym will be available for intramurals and open play, encouraging movement and student engagement during lunch. While some may be concerned about the potential for overcrowding in the lunchroom, the school has a solid plan in place. There will be staggered release times for 7th graders during the first week to help them learn lunch procedures, multiple serving lines, clear traffic flow plans, and strategies designed to keep lunch moving efficiently. Legacy Junior High, a nearby school with a similar student population, has successfully implemented a single lunch period, serving over 1,100 students in just 18 minutes. West Point is confident that with careful planning and community support, this change will benefit students academically, socially, and emotionally. As one 9th grader put it, “It’s way easier to go to club meetings or get help from teachers during lunch when everyone’s on the same schedule.” Students will no longer have to worry about being alone at lunch or confused by alternating schedules. This shift reflects West Point’s ongoing commitment to creating a positive, safe, and connected school environment for all Warriors.

Congratulations to West Point Jr. Boys and Girls track teams who gave their all today in the Davis School District Junior High Track meet at Davis High School this afternoon. Both Girls and Boys placed 3rd overall. We had standout performances breaking multiple school records. We couldn't be prouder of our Warriors!

On a blustery Tuesday our valiant track Warriors battled the elements and opponents in the DSD Jr. High N. End Track finals in which the WPJH boys took home 1st place and the WPJH girls took home 2nd place. We're so proud of all our Warrior track athletes and want to recognize all their hard work and dedication they've put in to this point in the season. Now it's on to the DSD Track Finals for many of our Warriors. Go Warriors!
